Minority Blues (short stories and poems)

Back in May 2021 Shuren Press put out an open call for submissions on the topic of minority blues, our very first open call at that. This book contains short stories and poems pertaining to the other on the fringes of normative society, whether it be due to their prevailing socio-economic background, their sexual orientation or gender identification, having an unpopular political view, being mentally ill, or simply just being an immigrant in a foreign land. This book aims to challenge its readers, to put aside and forget what one assumes to know about a minority, and through the process of erasure, hopefully illuminate the fact that the minority narrative is not the narrative of the victim.

Contributing writers:
Regina Yoong, Alison Liew, Harizah Hatim, Natasha Effendy, Anna Morgachova, Celina Tynska, Hazwani Hussain, Toh Ruo Min
